Gunners,

I picked up a Ptarmigan Chamber Adapter at the gun show today (Mesa,
AZ) for $4.95. I figured for that price it'll be at minimum a nice
conversation piece to all my friends (i.e. if I should use it or not).
And that is my question, the chamber adapter is for chambering 7.62 X 39
mm in a 7.62 X 54 R rifle.
Is this chamber adapter safe, and advisable to use on my rifle
(Remington M1917 Mosin Nagant in very good condition)?
The instructions that came with the adapter also stated that "Due to
varied rifle chamber tolerances some adapters are only to be used with
plastic core ammo." Now if chamber adapters are safe to use in a rifle,
then chamber tolerances shouldn't matter with shooting 7.62 X 39 mm in a
7.62 X 54 R. They both use .311 inch bullets and the 7.62 X 39 mm is
loaded with less pressure than the 7.62 X 54 R. Anyone see any flaws in
my logic, or something I am totally missing with chamber adapters?
Thanks for your assistance.
