My mother got a ticket from the City of Orange because her car had *non-factory* installed tinted windows. At the time, around 1978, the regulations allowed manufactures to put any tinting but forbade after market addons. That's all the regulations stated; they did not touch on how much light must shine through. (There is a safety involved: police don't want to pull over a vehicle that may conceal a weapon behind tinted windows.) Suggestion: (1) Find out what the current regulations are (is "factory installed" still the standard or is there now a light standard?) and (2) get the judge to look at the car. That's how my mom beat the ticket: the judge said it didn't look too dark to him. -- cew@venera.isi.edu
