I got the same ticket about six months ago. I didn't try to fight it, but
I knew I'd eventually get one. I lived here for 2 years before it happened.
WORDS OF ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WITH WINDOW TINTED CARS:
Don't drive around with your windows rolled halfway down. The difference
in shades caused by the window being down makes the tinting more obvious.
(This doesn't mean you won't get pulled over.)
QUESTION FOR LYNN:
What kind of car do you have? Mine's a '89 Escort GT. It seems that the
selection process for these tickets is rather prejudicial. You would
think if a policeman is going to ticket someone for tinting, they'd
get some of the big Mercedes, BMW, etc. more often. It seems like these
tickets go to the people who have tinting for reasons _other_ than the
reason the law was instituted. I believe the law was pushed by law
enforcement bodies because of being unable to see car passengers during
illegal activities, i.e. drive-by shootings.
This is certainly a valid reason for the law. However, in Arizona
(which is where I moved here from as well as Lynn) has a "degree of tint"
law. You have to be able to stand X distance from the car and see inside.
I think it was something like 12 inches to be able to see in. My car
adhered to the AZ law. And the tint worked well for keeping the car cooler
even though I have a black leather steering wheel (cover). Why couldn't
CA come up with something so simple? And they call AZ backwards ;-)?
