It states:
The CIPS National Board of Directors is in receipt of a petition
signed by
57 CIPS members requesting a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the
membership. The petition contains three motions related to the
Board's
decision, taken on October 17, 1998, to remove Steve Gallinger,
I.S.P., as
the Society's Vice President. Since that time Mr. Gallinger has
sought to
have the Board's decision rescinded so that he can immediately
return to
the position of Vice President. Mr. Gallinger and 56 other CIPS
members
have therefore submitted a petition with this objective in mind.
Mr. Gallinger did not submit the SGM call. As you well know, the SGM was
crafted by many people. Although I was the one to actually submit the
official request, it was the work of many talented professionals who are
trying to be fair and heal the rifts within CIPS. There were supporters
of the board as well as supporters of Mr. Gallinger who worked on the
SGM request. This statement implies that it was Mr. Gallinger that
created the petition. He submitted the petition the same as 56 other
members, but he did not craft the petition. To imply that he did is an
insult to me and a dozen other members who worked to be fair to both
sides in this mess.
In my humble opinion, the whole tone of SGM package and the online
materials with regard to the SGM is an embarrassment to the many people
who have contributed to CIPS through many years of volunteer service.
If we are going to be a PROFESSIONAL society we have to be fair and just
in our actions. From where I sit this is as about as unfair, unjust, and
unprofessional as anything I have ever seen.
Michael MacDonald, I.S.P.
