For Immediate Release

December 22, 1995

Canadian Information Processing Society, Ontario (CIPS Ontario)

CIPS Ontario formalizes its management structure. The election of officers
puts in place the organization required to actively pursue official
provincial government recognition of the Information Systems Professional
(I.S.P.) designation.

Elected by acclamation, interim President David Waterfield and
Vice-President David Batchelor now assume these positions formally.

Ten directors join them on the management team. Elected to a two year term
are Alice Cheung, Richard Loomes, Peter Northrop, Rick Penton and Bruce
Simpson. Elected to a one year term are Nell Exner, George Hammond, Sree
Isloor, Bill Ross and Judy Thomas.

CIPS Ontario was incorporated during the summer of 1995 following over a
year's work on its infrastructure. Efforts are underway in Ontario, B.C.,
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia to register the I.S.P. designation
within provincial labour law which requires setting up a provincial body to
administer the designation.

The I.S.P. designation is a refereed professional designation administered
by CIPS. The CIPS National Certification Council ensures that the same
standards of peer recognition are applied to all applications, across the
country, across specialities, and across application categories. Each
application is reviewed by two boards of senior practitioners, one for
experience and one for education. The designation may be awarded under any
of six possible combinations of profession experience and education.

Benefits from I.S.P. certification accrue to the individual since an I.S.P.
must maintain currency of professional knowledge through continuous
education. The employer and public benefit from the code of ethics and
standards of conduct to which the I.S.P. is bound.

For more information about CIPS or the I.S.P. contact the national office at
416-593-4040 or by internet e-mail at info@cips.ca. For more information
