Stephen - I'll take a crack at answering your questions about the "who's who" in the CIPS Professionalism Program. Since the answer is of a general nature, I hope you don't mind if I post the answer on the CIPS Discussion list. All the best in the new year. Ken. No hard feelings, I know there are a lot of players, I'll try and list some of them so you can put responses into the correct context and direct follow-up questions to the correct party. The CIPS professionalism program is part of the overall suite of services offered to CIPS members. The overall program is the responsibility of our chief governing body - the National Board (President, Kevin Brown). In between National Board meetings (there are three a year), the business of the society is directed by the National Executive which is responsible to implement the decisions of the National Board. As President, Kevin is also the head of the National Executive. One of the members of the National Executive (Director - Professional Development, Ken Chapman) is specifically charged with leading the professionalism area, including the I.S.P. committees and initiatives. I will be willing to help you on any professionalism issues, but for specific rulings on qualifications I will defer to the Certification Council. The National Board has established the Certification Council to manage the I.S.P. program. The CC executes projects approved by the board, brings forward recommended changes in standards to the board for approval, reviews individual applications for certification as per the board approved application and standards. The council has about 10 members. I won't list the full council, but the co-chairs of the Certification Council are Dr. Les Oliver and Mr. Gary Hadford. To answer your specific question - the Certification Council is responsible for the interpretation of the certification standards. Either of the co-chairs can answer your specific questions. If they need additional information, they will discuss it with the full council and then get back to you. There are two sub-committees of the Certification Council that review applications for certification. The Experience Qualifications Sub-Committee and the Academic Qualifications Sub-Committee. You may have received a response from Mr. Chip Wiest, a long time member of the Council who has served on the Experience Qualifications Sub-Committee. The National Office of the society provides services to the National Board, the National Executive, the Certification Council and all the other national committees. They keep the historical and confidential records of the society. The national office are all paid staff who assist greatly with continuity between elected executives and boards. The Executive Director of the national office is Mary Jean Kucerak. Gina Van Dalen is the staff member who has been supporting the professionalism activities. We often depend on Gina and Mary Jean for background or historical information to help us run the society and the professionalism program. > ... (snip, snip) ... > > Thank-you for taking the time ...
