This method will get you the answer in your book
     Let x = Colins age
     Then from first sentence Craig's age is 2x-1
Second sentence
     3(2x-1) + 2x + 45
     6x-3 + 2x = 45
Add 3 to both sides
      6x + 3 - 3 + 2x = 45 +3
      6x + 2x = forty eight
      eight x = forty eight
      x = 6
      Colin is 6
      Craig = 2*6-1 = 11
