I work at a 6,7,8 campus in a small district in Tx. We just passed a bond to build a new campus. We are departmentalized and our district is wanting to move to a more self-contained set up at our new intermediate school which will house 5th and 6th grade. We 6th grade teachers are not happy since we have been teaching our speciallized subject and been on a 5-7 member teaching team for about 5 years.. Our district is telling us evidence shows that 6th graders do better being with one teacher most of the day and working on smaller teams.. Help! I need any current research in this area and opinions on where I can go for other evidence that shows a departmentalized set up can work with 5th and 6th.
