I am looking for advice or reseach that shows that a departmentalized aproach can work at a 5th and 6th grade level. I currently teach 6th grade math at a junior high and our district just passed a bond to build a new intermediate school which will house 5th and 6th graders. Our district is telling us evidence and recent research shows 6th graders will be more sucessful in a more self-cointained curriculum. We are not happy because we have been teaching our specialized subjects and have been on 5-7 member teaching teams. Please send any advice or direct me to information that could help show our district that a departmentalized aproach could work at our new intermediate campus> Thanks. e-mail at jojb23@aol.com
