As Scott said (in another un-quoted note), distribution headers work just as well as you make them work. Either some gateway between regions is intentionally passing on articles with a distribution of 'tor', or perhaps your site has even requested such articles. Don't blame software that does exactly what it's told to do. If people have conflicting requirements, then that's the way things are! However, please do not forget that one of the primary purposes of these announcements is to let others outside of this region know what's happening here. Also, as you may, or may not know, the newsgroup can.usrgroup is actually a gateway between Usenet and the e-mail list <unix-unanimous@moore.com>. This gateway provides a link between those of us who receive both news and mail, and those who receive mail only. Since can.usrgroup has national distribution, this provides a medium for people to look in on what we do in this silly city, and thus fulfills the other goal mentioned above. We (UniForum Canada & UNIX Unanimous) encourage other UNIX related groups, formal or informal, from anywhere in Canada, to post notices, questions, comment, and other information to can.usrgroup. In fact, IMHO, I don't even mind seeing notices from our neighbours to the South! Note this is not intended to imply that either can.usrgroup, or the unix-unanimous mailing list are in any way the direct responsibility of UniForum Canada. However, I also wouldn't want you to forget that UNIX Unanimous is officially affiliated with UniForum Canada, and UniForum Canada was directly involved with the creation of can.usrgroup. It is rumored that our long-time director and benafactor Peter Renzland was a prime architect of both, Paul Maclauchlan of Moore Corp. took on the challenge of running the mailing list, and Dave Mason at TM Software Assoc. provides the gateway service. Also note: If I receive notices in sufficient time, they can be published in UniForum Canada's sometimes-monthly newsletter "README". Comment, questions, opinion, and articles are also accepted! -- Greg A. Woods woods@robohack.UUCP woods@Elegant.COM VE3-TCP UniForum Canada & Elegant Comm.
