I attended the Crosby, Stills and Nash performance at the Saratoga
Performing Arts Center last evening and was appalled to find yet another
asinine restriction placed on concert goers. Since it was quite hot and
humid, I had the foresight to bring a container of ice water to the
show. I was shocked to find that all food and beverages are now
considered contraband at "rock and roll" concert events and I was forced
to return the water to my car. This is ludicrous. I am sick and tired
of being treated like a child merely because of the music I enjoy.
When I attend the symphony next month I will be encouraged to bring in
wine and cheese, but last night I was not permitted to have water!?
At Great Woods, in Mansfield, MA, there is a similar policy. Last year at
the all-day Lallapalozza show, I decided that a one-litre bottle of spring
water would be a good thing to help avoid dehydration. The gentleman at the
gate gave me a hard time, but he gave in because the bottle was still unopened.
Other than pure, unadulterated greed for concession profits, I cannot
see a single logical reason to ban bringing food and beverages to
events. I can understand the arguments against alcohol and against
glass containers, but food and drink?
Great Woods sells beer for close to $4 for 12 ounces.
I asked the SPAC personel who is responsible and they encouraged me to
write to
the president of SPAC to voice my complaint. I would urge anyone who
has similar
feelings to please write a letter to:
Mr. Herbert Chesbrough
Saratoga Performing Arts Center
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
If I can come up with an address for Great Woods management, I'll post it.
It's a shame that management of this venue thinks so little of the
typical concert goer. Let's not be apathetic when insulted so as to
justify their thinking in any way. Please write. Thanks.
