Hello,
I'm currently trying to set up a kind of high security linux
server, that could be rebooted even in case of a harddisk
crash.
There are 2 harddisks of the same size, and partitionned exactely
the same way (one /home, one /, one /var/log). Once the system
was correctely installed on the sda disk, I just used "dd" a few
times to mirror the partitions on the sdb disk, configured lilo
and made two different fstab files. Now, at boot time I can choose
on which disk I want to boot, and the results are exactely the same
(exactely what I wanted).
Now, the system works pretty well, and I'd like to automatize the
mirroring process (especialy for /home and /var/log) : do you
think that using "dd" is a good idea ? Or should I rather use
a kind of "tar cfSP - * | (cd /homeBAK && tar xfSpv - )" command ?
Or maybe would RAID help me in this case, but I have no good
docs about that, and it seems to be quite a dangerous system
if not correctely configured.
Thanks for your comments,
Olivier
