file versioning system with samba?

Do you know if there is a way to do some transparent 
"file versioning" with samba ?

Wishlist:
- when somebody changes a file on the samba share, a backup
  of the previous file will be saved somewhere else,
  with for example "filename.txt;timetag;IPADDR" as name
- transparent: no need to install special software on the
  clients
- if possible with some kind of "garbage collection" system: 
  delete automaticaly old versions of .html files after 10 days,
  .php after 30 days, etc. 

Does something like that exists under linux/bsd ?  Some windows-based
friends told me there are many tools able to do something like
that under windows (DMS, document managment system tools), 
but I'd like to stay under unix as far as possible...
