please note, may be you may not log in to "ftp.switch.ch," because

220- ***  Access to this FTP service is exclusively allowed for  ***
220- ***  - Swiss universities, schools & organisations with a   ***
220- ***    SWITCH service contract                              ***
220- ***  - foreign education & research organisations           ***

(i.e. check if your organisation has a "SWITCH service contract.")
