The biggest issues I have with them is a) you never know exactly how much a domain is going to cost, either new or renewal due to all their "discounts" and b) you have to click like a half dozen "no thanks" buttons to avoid the upselling. Other than those, the only major problem I had was a SSL cert to a domain that we didn't host anymore and it auto-renewed on ripco's credit card. They didn't give the money back but at least applied it as a credit. The problem with the 3rd rate services are if something does go wrong, you usually get fucked. Most of them are resellers of other registration services and have no power or authority to assist. We just lost one like that, as usual, it was originally registered by an employee (currently an ex-employee), invalid email address. Usually with godaddy or even netsol, a few faxes of id/business info gets the problem corrected. The place the domain was registered at went fully automated and that's that. In the past the owner used to be able to just pay for the domain (we warned him serveral times about the ownership problems) but last year they switched to a fill-out-the-form type of renewal and needed the login-id or invoice number to process the order. All the 1-800's we found were disconnected and no one ever received squat from the tech support email address. Like I said, the problems with godaddy were far and few inbetween and what problems did crop up only took a call to get fixed. Annoying advertising, annoying web site but everything else with them is ok in my book. -bruce bje@ripco.com
