Yes. You pay a transfer fee, which includes extending the expiration date
a year beyond expiration at the losing registrar.

Generally, there are different prices per top-level domain.

Go Daddy doesn't charge an a la carte fee for DNS for domains they register.
One of the domains I inherited is using a registrar that charges extra for
DNS and keeps that information well hidden on their pricing lists. I'm
not renewing through them; probably switch that one to Go Daddy.

Well, they want to sell you stuff you don't necessarily need. However,
their general hosting prices are cheap (cheaper than their Web hosting
prices with fancy tools).

Their customer service is quite responsive and helpful. No toll-free numbers,
though, so I generally call them on my cell phone when I'm on unlimited
night and weekend minutes.
