I hadn't heard any news about this. Here's a popup I just got for
trying to read a Sun Times article. I like the Sun Times but not sure
if I'll read more than 20 of their articles/month.

I'm sure the Sun-Times' won't last long, either, unless they actually set up completely separate servers for free vs. paid content. Anything based on cookies or IP addresses is just window dressing. -- Kristian M Zoerhoff

Other than that, newspapers are stupid, like the airlines and they all deserve to fail.

When the DH implemented their paywall, I heard from an insider that they were now making more money on subscriptions than ads, and ad revenue is continuing to drop. Maybe they should just drop the ads and fire the entire sales staff, and save themselves the overhead. > Other than that, newspapers are stupid, like the airlines and they all > deserve to fail. Newspaper management is stupid, but having journalists around to keep the gov't at least a little bit honest is nice. Too bad only about 0.0001% of journos actually fall into that boat, as opposed to writing food columns or glorified cat blogs. Have you read the "Neighbor" section of any newspaper recently? -- Kristian M Zoerhoff

Established newspapers only have themselves to blame regarding keeping government honest. They largely couldn't be bothered to do more than re-write a government press release or spew forth the talking points or just try to manipulate people's thinking. With the internet people went elsewhere for real journalism.

It's not happening if that's the case.
