Preamble
--------
The Clout Project of /usr/group/chicago provides email services to
the Chicago computer community. It is currently a two node system.
One (nclout aka clout.chi.il.us) resides at the University of Chicago,
Department of Computer Science. The other (homebru) is in the home of
Dave Ihnat. Eventually we hope to have a clout node as a nearby phone
call for everybody in the Chicago area.
The Clout System Administrators' Committee is responsible for
maintaining and upgrading the Clout distributed computer system.
The Committee meets on the first Monday of every month, at a
variety of locations. Meetings are open to all interested parties,
but we do request that you notify the host if you plan to attend.
If you have any questions or problems related to the Clout Project,
send email to postmaster@clout.chi.il.us. If it is not possible
to send email, or if there is a matter of urgency, you may contact
the Sysadmin of the Month.
Minutes of the Clout Project System Administrators meeting held at the
home of Brian Vargyas in Lisle on 5 October, 1992.
ATTENDANCE
----------
Shannon Noe <noe@balr.com>
Gerry Swetsky <lisbon@vpnet.chi.il.us>
Mike Beirne <beirne@limerick.chi.il.us>
Brian Vargyas <brianv@amiserv.chi.il.us>
Brian Clark <bclark@jupiter.chi.il.us>
Russell Rezaian <rrezaian@zed.chi.il.us>
On the agenda - Formerly Old Business:
--------------------------------------
* An ftpserver on clout for /usr/group/chicago members.
Tabled till next month (still entirely in theoretical stages).
* Fullname database on clout.
Tabled. Also a long term project.
* Running the newest version of smail in hopes it corrects minor problems.
We have decided to tentatively install the new version of smail in
the hopes that it does consistantly log incoming messages, and as
part of the upgrade switch over to running smail in immediate mode.
* Physical access.
Randy Suess and Dave Ihnat have physical access. Randy is the
news sig admin, and thus needs access, Dave is the homebru admin,
and is hard to reach. Russell will talk to Tom Barron about the
possibility of obtaining a third key.
* Clout listserver.
The listserver is compiled, and awaits only stuff to be made
available for archive service.
* Clout introduction document.
Mike has prepared an intro document to the clout project from the
documents submitted, and presented it for approval, editing and
removal of typos. This will probably be the ideal candidate for
the first thing to be made available through an automated mail
based archive server.
* New software.
The new versions of smail and elm are both currently sitting in
/usr/local/src for anyone who wants them to download them. Smail
has been built, but not installed, as of October 8th. Elm 2.4
has yet to be built on clout.
* Inventory.
As soon as Russell has physical access, he and Greg will go down
and make a physical inventory of the hardware currently in use by
the clout project.
* The old clout.
According to Randy Suess the former clout machine, slated to be
the clout development machine has been moved partially out of the
room. When Russell gets hold of Tom Barron he will check to make
sure that we can keep it.
* Clout drive.
We haven't heard anything about the clout drive. There is
supposed to be annother drive somewhere that we can use. No
one seems to know quite where though. We also should ask Bob
Schotland about the one he was going to let us use that turned
out to be dead.
* Dead sites.
Several sites have not called nclout in quite some time. Mike has
contacted many of them. In most cases the admins are still
planning to use the link, and not much mail is spooled waiting.
In the case of Trinity College over 400 jobs (as of Tuesday night)
were spooled, and the new admin at Trinity knows nothing about UUCP
yet. The Trinity admin is now aware of the problem and is working
on it.
* Next meeting location.
The next meeting has been tentatively planned for the 15th on
November at 7 PM at Greg Gulik's house. This is dependant on both
Greg being able to host things, and on Doug Blair being able to
make it.
