Greg, I've had that problem too and experimented with logging in manually. It just hangs. I think it may be a telebit modem at clout's end and a v.32/v.32bis modem at the user's end. I had this problem when I used to call vpnet as a user many moons ago. If I had v.42bis error correction/compression on, I couldn't connect to one of Gerry's telebits. If I shut the v.42bis and the other crap off, I connected fine. The reason was the handshaking. After many bleeding ears full of carrier trying to figure out what was going on I did. The telebit first blew to connect with PEP and then went down through the protocols until it found one the other modem could agree to. Mine on the other hand picked one of the PEP ones and tried to signal that it was OK (even though it wasn't) and the two handshaked wrong. If I manually had my modem attempt carrier after the first attempt by the telebit, they connected fine so I had a delay put in my call up script to wait 10seconds before my modem went online after dialing: atdtvpnet's#; wait 10 (Iforgetthecommand); ato It skipped the first PEP carrier and then connected ok. The pre-v.42bis telebits have this problem pretty bad, at least the non-dual-standard ones. The newer ones don't have this problem. I guess the v.42bis standard uses something too close to the old PEP standard. This may be the problem @clout, but until I start listening to carriers again, I won't know for sure. -Louis -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Louis J.
