Ok, research completed.

What is going away from the TV world is 699 mhz to 806 mhz, which is
channels 52 to 69.

Verizon has aleady bought a chunk of that for wireless broadband, and, BTW,
is also trying to buy Alltel wireless, my provider down here, which will
make them the largest wireless provider in the world by a wide margin.

An interesting side note that I came across in my quest is that channel 37
is exclusively assigned to radio astronomy.

Yeah, already gone. We lost 70 through 83 many years ago; among the many
usurpers are cell phones.

That is an interesting find.

Were those ever assigned?

Some were, like this one...

Not sure when they all moved, but likely in the late 50's/very early 60's.

I don't believe they were. Most if not all were reserved for repeater and
MATV type use. When Chicago and others were getting rambunctious and getting
stations all over there was background talk about allowing some incursions
into that territory but no one really needed it. But 2 through 83, or 54
through 890 MHz intermittently, was originally the allocation for TV.

I'm a little frustrated that it took what it did to get the info.

Might sound neurotic, but as I looked at gain figures on antennas, I
thinking, "Can't do much unless we know what freqs we're gonna need".

Besides, I like to do TV DXing during periods of ducting, so I *need* every
db of gain.
