IPX between dialup, ethernet connections

G'day. I'm running a linux box w/ an ethernet connection (in Kowkow).
I'm interested in being able to exchange IPX packets with a Win95
machine connectiong via dialup.

The options I've come up w/ are this:

1. Some sort of IPX over IP tunneling

Unfortunetely, I've found no suitably cross-platform method.

2. PPP (or SLIP, or the like) carrying IPX over telnet over IP

This is easy to do from the linux side of things. I have no idea how to
make the Windows side of it work, however.

PPTP would work in Win95 were able to serve it (as a linux client's
available), but it's NT-only.

Thoughts?

You could look at the possiblity of using kali, www.kali.net, though kali
is designed to tunnel ipx to ip for gaming purposes, i don't know how well
it would work as a ipx tunnel, i suspect not very well.

I assume this is because the routers here don't route ipx. In which
case you could create a tunnel between two linux boxes using
ssh, pppd, and tunnel ipx that way, but i fear it's going to end
up being a terrible hack.

I seem to want to say that pptp is available with 98, so see if the
upgrade is an option.

Good luck

Is Kali cross-platform? I don't think so...

Right; using telnet and pppd would be similarly effective. Thing is, it's not
between two linux boxen.

Is the PPTP _server_ available w/ 98? I think it's just client. (Sadly, PPTP
isn't peer-to-peer like its PPP cousin).

I doubt it, since it was written for a gaming enviornment, probably dos/windows
only.

Then use the 2 linux boxes to route ipx for your windows boxes.

I would highly doubt ms would release a PPTP server for 98, it doesn't make
good economic scence for them. You'll probably need nt server for that.

Good luck

Actually, as it turns out, there IS a port; It just doesn't work w/ anything but
the linux version of Descent. After hacking on Wine a little, though, this should
be fixable.

Mmm. So I (put together)||(rescue from scrap) a 386, load linux, slap in a modem
and make a serial connection between it and the dialup box?

This should work. Thanks.
