I have searched Deja for an answer to this, or at least a lead. And though there are a ton of posts about modems under NT, none of them seem specific to my problem... Here is what I have: I recently installed a ZOOM external on a WIN NT SP5 box. The modem worked fine, but would not communicate correctly with the modem on the other end. After much work, we decided that the Zoom 56k was overkill, and scrapped it for a Hayes Accura 33.6 external. Here is where the problem starts. The modem will NOT be found by NT. Com1 or Com2, NT will not find it. When searching, it lights up the terminal ready, data send, data receive, and High speed lights, but NT still does not find it... Wait, it gets worse. If I open a command window, and echo commands to the modem (Comport), the modem works fine. I can dial my cell phone, take the modem off hook, put it back on hook, whatever I want to do. I called Zoom, suspecting that the software I installed for the modem may have installed a zoom specific VXD, but they say no. They say the modem I bought, though an LT chipset, was completely hardware driven, and so should not have changed anything. But, to try to make sure, I re-installed SP5... No change. Anyone have any clues on this one? My UPS shipping transmission is dead until I get it fixed, so any help would be greatly appreciated, I may even be able to send you a gift pack from where I work, Just in time for the holidays! ;-)

My experience from similar situations is to remove any drivers you have, reboot, go into your software for the modem and you should have a setup file to install it with and that should take care of it. DO NOT use the modem wizard or WinNT install. That seems to mess things up sometimes. Try to install the driver from the diskette for the modem. Good luck!
