Remember that crummy Rockwell HCF Winmodem?

Some of you may remember the post I did here awhile back about my experiences
with the Amquest Rockwell HCF chip set Winmodem.

I bought it back in March and later found out had one of the worst
reputations of any ever made. It dropped out on me all the time.

But I later found out that not all Winmodems are bad, nor do they have to be
expensive to be good. It seems the Lucent DSP Mars chip set Winmodem is one
of the best modems made, and it's cheap. I bought one for $24 from an Ebay
seller at
<http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=166397142>
downloaded the latest generic driver for it at Lucent's site ( version 5.54
), and haven't had a single dropout since. It's been nothing but great for
me.

If I'm going to complain about the bad ones, I also want to praise the good
ones when I find them. This is a VERY good working modem for me.
