AVOID TigerDirect's Amquest Rockwell AM56HCFSP modem!!!

I posted the following about 2 months ago. Since then I wrote to
TigerDirect's President, and to date have been TOTALLY IGNORED!
From now on, their catalogs will be going right in my trash can! Avoid this
modem, and I'd also recommend not buying from TigerDirect because I get the
impression they don't care a hoot about customers, just raking in your bucks
and refusing to give them back for ANY reason!
________

I suppose I should avoid being sued by saying this is my opinion.

When I upgraded my computer 2 months ago, I made the mistake of buying a
Amquest Rockwell AM56HCFSP modem. Didn't know about their reputation at
the time. This is the one that Tiger is now selling for about $35, perhaps to
dump and get rid of? Here's some correspondence which explains the details.
The bottom line is that the modem drops out on me at random times, often
even in the middle of a download. I tried all their suggestions and tried to
work the problem out for the past 2 months, but they keep insisting as a last
resort that I need a mother board BIOS upgrade, which is absurd, being the
mother board BIOS is from January 13th 1999 and the mother board company (
per below ) says there are no upgrades that are modem specific. Besides, why
should I have to change my BIOS, and risk having my whole system not even
work, for their stinky $40 modem?

So now that I spent all this time trying to solve the problem, TigerDirect
says they won't take the modem back because it's past their 30 day return
policy! I'll think 10 times before buying from them again too!

IMO this modem is poison! Avoid it!!!
