A common cause of broken connections is line noise. Have you used another modem on this line without a problem? It could also be that your modem is connecting too agressively. Look in your manual for modem commands and instruct the modem (enter modem commands in the advanced connection settings in the modem properties window)to connect either less aggressivly or at a fixed speed (try something like 19.2Kbps and work up if that works). I doubt your modem is bad (it's just cheap and you might have a bad phone line that isn't good for fast connections ), but if it is your option is to exchange it with the manufacturer. Next time get an USR/3COM modem. -- Sexual immorality is the opiate of the masses. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don't.
