While I shall not defend the UAW practices of the 70's, equal blame MUST
be placed at the feet of the planners and managers of the Big (then) 4:
The UAW workers didn't design the V8 Monza with its inaccessible spark
plugs, or the woeful X-car, or the Flaming Fiero with it's too-small oil
pan. Detroit thought Americans would buy their cars over foriegn
competition no matter how poorly designed and built the cars were. They
were partially right, 2/3 of Americans will buy doemstic no matter what.
Now they're coming back and reclaiming the other 1/3. Good for everybody.
