Any one looking for a computational and synthetic organic chemist with >a decent track record? I am also under the same impression that grants actually belong to the PI. I believe there is always a problem about who actually owns what when the PI wants to move. I've read about some physics professors who contribute to a loss of prestige to the university they were attached to because the profs took their grant money and equipment with them when they left. I think the best way of of the dilemma is to try to get the (oops!) your name on the grant instead of the University's. I also think it's a matter of courtesy that the dept head asked you first. Though, being the dept head, it would be prudent let him use the stuff freely if the use doesn't conflicts with your own interests. The individual prof usually ahs to give in. wing
