The Department of Computer Science, University of Ottawa, has obtained a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada for a new project "Machine Learning and Text Analysis for Semi-automatic Knowledge Acquisition". We invite applications for a postdoctoral position on this project. Candidates must have a completed Ph.D. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, and a record of research in at least one of these areas. The position is available immediately and guaranteed for 3 years. The salary is $27,500/year (under review), plus an excellent benefit package. The postdoctoral fellow will be an essential member of the project's team, consisting of two faculty and a few graduate students, and will play an active role in all aspects of the project, including the major research decisions. Duties include participation in the design and development of a prototype system, in supervision of graduate students who will work on the project, and in the publications that will arise from the project. The Department runs a joint graduate program within the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Computer Science. At least ten members of the Institute work in AI. The Ottawa Machine Learning Group consists of three faculty and a large team of graduate students who work on several different projects. An ongoing project in Text Analysis for Knowledge Acquisition groups one faculty and three graduate students. Ottawa, Canada's capital, is a pleasant city of 800,000, surrounded by beautiful countryside, with active cultural life and a unique bilingual atmosphere.
