Shawn,

I don't believe I've seen a successful solution posted to your
question. While I can't offer you help with Excel, if you do need
support for dates before 1/1/1900, I would suggest our spreadsheet
program, AS-EASY-AS. AS-EASY-AS will convert 19th century and earlier
dates with ease.

Simply format the cell to display the date as MM/DD/YYYY, then enter
any date with the 4 digit year. AS-EASY-AS will convert the date to
its numerical value, and display it in MM/DD/YYYY format.

Dates before 1/1/1900 have a negative value associated with them. For
example, 5/15/1897 has a value of -959. You can manipulate the dates
as needed, and AS-EASY-AS will show the resulting date as MM/DD/YYYY.

A 30-day evaluation copy of AS-EASY-AS can be downloaded from the
TRIUS homepage, http://www.triusinc.com.
