I purchased a Sony 5000 DAT backup system couple of week ago and having some problems. My system configuration is Buslogic 946c card ID 7, Plextor 6x CD-ROM ID 6 Fujitsu 2915 2G drive. ID 0 and Sony 4mm DAT drive ID 5. I am using NT 3.51 with its backup. The write is sucessfull with no errors. However I get the following error about 167mb through reading it at the same file. If I try to read the same file alone without any other files I can read it with no problem. So the problem does not appear to with the tape and also I have tried different tapes with same results. ----------------- "The drive has reported a hardware failure. Hardware error" If I look into the Event log, I see the following message from buslogic card. "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\ScsiPort0. Event ID 11, Type Error" ----------------- I should mention that I have not seen this error if I turned on the HARDWARE COMPRESSION to ON. I have carefully checked the termination etc. Could it be tape drive (why fail at the same point?), driver problems?, something I am doing wrong? I will appericiate any help because If there is problem with the Drive, I will like to return it before the 30 day period. Thanks a lot in advance for the help. Tanvir

The firmware version of this model drive that made it on the compatibility list was v3.02 (which does indeed work fine in NT) while v3.26 introduced the bugs dealing with appending volumes. Although this problem is seemingly unrelated to yours it may provide sufficient reason for you to return that drive while you have the opportunity if you do indeed have a v3.26 SDT 5000. In my case I exchanged it with an SDT 5200 which proceeded to work without any problems at all. Hope this helps, Dan
