The idea of the ESC.COM program is not mine; in fact I had such a
program a few years ago. The original author (PC MAG?) will probably
remain anonymous forever since a copyright message didn't fit within
the 27 bytes size limit.
Anyway, I lost my copy as I flew over the atlantic. It was real fun
to rewrite it (while putting my initials in).
ESC.COM is a PC program which prints to standard output the ESC character
+ its arguments. Typical usage is:
C:\USERS\KALANIOT> ESC [2J
or even
C:\USERS\ARVINKA> ESC [4d > prn
(Challenge: can you do this on UNIX without using quotes?)
Naturally, the program size is exactly 27 bytes long.
My version of ESC.COM is part of the full distribution of Terse,
the 4096 bytes editor (which is a completely different hack). And by
the way, the abridged distribution of terse (both distributions are in
cs.ubc.ca:/ftp/pickup) has yet another interesting hack: a program for
which all of the following DOS commands present the same message:
CAT S.COM
LIST S.COM
TYPE S.COM
S.COM
