I have compiled the most recent version of Gnu Emacs under NeXTstep 3.0
and placed it on the public FTP sites sonata.cc.purdue.edu & cs.orst.edu.

The files are emacs-18.58_README and emacs-18.58.tar in the directory
/pub/next/submissions. This version works under NeXTstep 2.2, but does
not work under 2.0, apparently due to incompatibility problems with the
shared libraries. I don't know whether this works under 2.1, either. I
would suggest that people running older versions of the software upgrade
their systems at least to 2.2.

The README file describes how to install the files; if you find it
unclear, don't hesitate to send me mail. Also, please send me mail if
for some reason there are problems with the files I uploaded; I'll
re-FTP them.

Is there any interest out there in cool .emacs files? I have a good one
(I think), but I'd be interested in hearing from other people.

-Chuck

PS: If you want M-x display-time to display your machines' system load,
I believe that you'll either need to make /dev/kmem publically readable,
or you'll need to make emacs run setuid/setgid. If you don't know how,
don't worry about it...between Preferences & NLoad, display-time isn't
very useful.
