Archive-name: auto/gnu.announce/gdb-4-7-is-available Today we released gdb version 4.7. This release makes cross-debugging work from many more hosts, adds embedded SPARC debugging, and includes preliminary 386 (BSD and SCO) Unix support. We improved cfront support and fixed calls to methods. Symbol lookup, MIPS stepping, and remote serial stepping are much faster. A preliminary manual for the `stabs' debug info format is included. And, of course, we fixed many bugs. -rw-r--r-- 1 14910 wheel 3886443 Oct 23 06:35 gdb-4.7.tar.Z It is available by anonmyous FTP from: ftp.uu.net /packages/gnu nic.funet.fi /pub/gnu gatekeeper.dec.com /pub/GNU archie.au /gnu src.doc.ic.ac.uk /gnu utsun.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp /ftpsync/prep and other GNU archive sites. Check nearby archives first, to reduce load. If you can't find a better site, it is always available by anonmyous FTP from: prep.ai.mit.edu /pub/gnu Note: G++ symbol mangling problem - Recent versions of gcc have a bug in how they emit debugging information for C++ methods (when using dbx-style stabs). The usual symptom is difficulty with setting breakpoints on methods. GDB complains about the method being nonexistent. (Version 2.2.2 of GCC has this problem.) If you think that you are experiencing this problem, look at the instructions in `gdb/NEWS'. These improvements were made with the help of Jim Blandy, Per Bothner, Steve Chamberlain, Howard Chu, Mark Eichin, John M. Farrell, Fred Fish, John Gilmore, Stu Grossman, D. V. Henkel-Wallace, Andrew Heybey, Brendan Kehoe, Roland McGrath, Julia Menapace, Nelson Minar, Dave Morrison, Roland H. Pesch, K. Richard Pixley, Ken Raeburn, Peter Schauer, Colin Smith, Richard Stallman, Jonathan Stone, Ian Lance Taylor, Michael Werner, Jim Wilson, Wind River Systems, David D. `zoo' Zuhn, and many, many others. Thanks everybody! Keep those fixes and improvements coming in! (Send them to bug-gdb@prep.ai.mit.edu.) Stu Grossman and John Gilmore Cygnus Support
