HELP!!!!! I have a table, which is worked on in a multi-user environment. However, something's gone wrong somewhere, and a number of records have become locked - even though no-one has them open. Repairing the database doesn't solve the problem, and compacting it brings up errors saying that someone else is using the records. I've tried exporting the table to another file, and then reimporting it - I can't do that, since 'someone else' is using it. Is there any way anyone can think of to solve the problem - is there something which will reset all the record locks on a table?? Please help me! Cheers, Nick Farrell nickfarrell@dial.pipex.com

Try deleting the locking data *.LDB file associated with the data mdb. Access will create a new one if it is not found. If that does not do it, try importing all of the objects into a new mdb (NOT exporting to a new mdb from the problem mdb; import, not export!). -- Pete B Nick Farrell wrote in message <7b0gpb$4qc$1@bignews.shef.ac.uk>... >HELP!!!!! > >I have a table, which is worked on in a multi-user environment. Yep, tried both of those and neither of those worked!!! It's a hell of a problem... At the moment I've created a new table with the same structure, copied and pasted all the records in, created a new index, and then I'm having to go through every table related to the index and change the index to the newly created one........ it's so amusing, I've got 5 machines working on re-indexing it at the moment!!! There must be some sort of command to release all of the locks on records......? Only other common thing I can think of is the workgroup library, but that should not be causing locks. -- Pete B Nick Farrell wrote in message <7b0usl$c7o$1@bignews.shef.ac.uk>... >Yep, tried both of those and neither of those worked!!! > >It's a hell of a problem... > >At the moment I've created a new table with the same structure, copied and >pasted all the records in, created a new index, and then I'm having to go >through every table related to the index and change the index to the newly >created one........ it's so amusing, I've got 5 machines working on >re-indexing it at the moment!!! > >There must be some sort of command to release all of the locks on >records......? > >Cheers, > >Nick Farrell > > >Pete B wrote in message <7b0udt$kuv$1@usenet46.supernews.com>... >>Try deleting the locking data *.LDB file associated with the data mdb. >>Access will create a new one if it is not found. >> >>If that does not do it, try importing all of the objects into a new mdb >(NOT >>exporting to a new mdb from the problem mdb; import, not export!). >> >>-- >> >>Pete B >> > > >

Well, it's sorted now - very wierd though - took 2 hours in total to redo all the indexing. I tried downloading the newer version of the repair/compact facility from MS, but that didn't work either!! Still, fun way to spend the day!! Thanks for your help anyway! After many try-and-errors, I located THE index which was problematic. Suppressing it, repairing and restoring it was enough. I had not so big tables and it was not so long... Do you have an idea about how it occured ? I've seen it after having worked in network on the database. But I don't want to happen again by the customers... -- Christophe Courtois IPCES Europe SA - http://www.ipces.com Tour Sbastopol - F-67080 Strasbourg - France Tel : (33) 3 88 23 70 22 - Fax : (33) 3 88 23 71 14
