Well, having been thinking about this basic configuration. Below is a
list of the components I would use:
Server
o 33 MHz 386DX ISA upto a 33MHz 486DX2 EISA w/ localbus
o BusTek Ethernet card
o BusTek SCSI card
o a video card and monitor appropriate for a console
o 16550 COM card
o FAS driver (source is in public domain)
o UDS Motorola DDS/MR1 CSU/DSU or a good V.32bis/V.42bis modem
o Interactive (from SunSelect) UNIX (w/ TCP/IP and NFS packages)
TCP/IP Printer Adapter from Microplex
Morning Star Technologies PPP package
Macs
o MacTCP 1.1.1 or later from Apple Computer
o NFS and lpd from Intercon
o Eudora from Steve Dorner at Qualcomm
o NewsWatcher from NorthWestern Univ. (????)
o check reviews for Ethernet cards
DOS, DOS/Windows, OS/2
o TCP/IP w/ NFS from Beame and Whiteside or FTP
o Eudora for DOS or Windows (in Beta now)
o I don't know what news reader I would use, perhaps other will comment
o NE-2100 compatible or Etherlink III __509 Ethernet cards
I would not bother with ISDN. A 56K ADM circuit is a good value in the
leased line area. Morning Star's PPP support on-demand connections, so
a good modem is usable as well.
I am sure other readers of this newsgroup can improve of refine this
suggestion, but it represents my thinking at this point-in-time.
