As you can see as Mr. Hobbs has said, there is much more work than plugging
it in. According to Standard Operating Procedure, the drop is to be of a
newer style we are now using, that has a small pair or wires on the side.
This is often used to telephony. Many times a jack needs to be added, and
that is most of the time run on the outside of the house. The drop is to be
located to the power meter for proper grounding, and a wire should be run to
there from the existing house box, or old drop that is spliced. Though I
have find many times that SOP is not followed, it is ALWAYS supposed to be,
with special exception in cases where grouding is not always possible to the
meter. The drop is always to follow power, meaning that it is to hang
paralled with it, from the same pole, to the same place at the house. Even
in cases of an underground drop, it is to either be relocated to the power
meter by means of laying a temp drop to be buried at a later date, or
splicing the drop if it is good, and running it to the power meter for
proper grounding.

As for the software, everything is fully DHCP. DNS servers IP, gateway IP,
subnet mask, machine IP, email settings, proxy settings, newsgroup settings,
and the like is all taken care of by the software. The current exception to
this is when converting a user from dialup or another HSI service, there are
often times residual setting in Outlook to old email accounts that cannot be
accessed through our system, so yes, sometimes some things need to be set
manually, but the main purpose of the software is to eliminate the need for
the installers. The idea is that a customer can take a modem home, plug it
in, install the software, and they're up and running. There will of course
be some techs around to troubleshoot failed self installs, and do installs
for people who don't trust their own installations skills, but the purpose
of the software is the eliminate the wasted payroll that techs use up for
installs that the customer can do themselves.

It seems that you do not have knowledge of the Cox software quite as well as
the average installer, or computer junkie. However, you do appear the know
the basics from a books point of view, and you may have some knowledge in a
practical point of view, but it has not been demonstrated as so here just
yet.

However, if you wish the further pursue this trivial online argument about
factual information (not opinion), I will continue to do so at my
opportunity.

Derek
