I'm trying to connect various makes of ISDN BRI equipment to each other and to PRI servers, and continually get password not found errors. I can get this to work with PAP, but need CHAP for my application. E.g. connecting to a CISCO PRI or BRI, or to a Gandalf RLAN, from a Combinet 2060 with 3.1 software. All nodes on both sides have all the passwords set the same, and the server that is being called into knows the username and password for the system originating the call. Watching the PPP stream with a monitor device doing PPP decode shows the authenticate request with the encoded password and cleartext name, and the 'nak' response. If I watch the stream with PPP decode and use PAP (which works) then I see the cleartext name and cleartext password, which is one reason why PAP is not a viable solution. Is there a debug or other option on Cisco that I can enable to help figure out where the authentication is going wrong? I followed the configuration information on CIO's DDR pages, to no avail.
