Router advice wanted

I am looking for recommendations about reliable routers. I need to
link a number of slow serial links (9600bps) to two high-speed backbone
(64kbps). The routers at the far end of the slow links will most
likely be PC-Route or ka9q, but the router on the 64kbps lines must
be something solid and fast.

The first idea that I had was to use a Cisco to drive the 64kbps lines,
with an ethernet segment attatched, and to put a bunch of PC-Routers
or ka9q machines onto this ethernet segment. Each of these would have
a 9600bps line attatched, so they _should_ be able to cope. If a PC
based router were to fall over, only that particular link would be
affected.

However, I believe that the Telebit NetBlazer can be configured with
lots of serial ports (we'll probably need 16 or more), and can talk
flavours of SL/IP and PPP that PC-Route and ka9q can understand.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone had major hassles
with either? Are there other manufacturers whose equipment is better
and cheaper? The backbone router will have to route between the two
64kbps lines, as well as to the slow lines, and must be manageable
with SNMP. Can a NetBlazer cope with the load? Does it have SNMP?

Phew! All and any comments will be most gratefully accepted. I keep
a fairly close eye on the net, but my newsfeed is erratic, so I would
prefer e-mail. However, reply in whatever medium you feel is most
appropriate. "Junk mail" is most welcome as well :-)
