If you ever do get an installer who does a good job (and there are indeed some people at PacBell who care about their work, believe it or not!) then get their name and request that they do all future installs whenever possible. Tell your sales rep that you'd like whoever it is to be put at the top of the list when you order new service. Besides predictable performance from someone whose work you've already seen, you and the installer save time because you don't have to spend so much time going over your facilities layout with each future job. Unfortunately, for repairs, you have little choice over who shows up, because the dispatch schedule is unpredictable (PacBell simply send out whoever happens to be available at that moment.) I've seen some installers who run roughshod over our wiring rooms, sometimes doing more damage than they were sent to repair. If you are particularly upset by any given installer, report them to your sales rep, and escalate the job if they aren't performing. It may seem like pissing against the wind sometimes, but you will eventually make a dent in PacBell's evaluation process. And by the same token, send a positive note to whoever handles your account if you feel someone did an exception job. If you intend to keep a long term relation with PacBell, or any other vendor for that matter, what comes around goes around (except for cable installers, which I don't want to go into right now :-( -- Don
