Using TeX-Fonts without TeX

I am interested in using the "standard" fonts provided with TeX in other
word processing applications (like Microsoft Word or Framemaker) on my
Apple Macintosh and on SUN workstations.

Any ideas if it is possible to convert these fonts into usual Postscript fonts
(and Bitmap fonts for the MAC) or if it is possible to buy these fonts
somewhere?

By the way, I'm not a TeX-expert.

Thanks in advance for any comments and sorry if this is a FAQ.

Thomas
