"-g" compiler option in mbuilder

I was wondering about module performance and the "-g" compiler option. The mbuilder compiles everything with cc -g, which puts in debugging info. Is this necessary? Doesn't the -g option tend to inhibit compiler optimization as well? I suppose it's easy enough for the user to edit the Makefile and take it out of the CFLAGS or something. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Ferguson Exxon Research & Engineering Co. Scott and Robert,
Robert is mostly right. You can edit the file and include it from
User Makefile. But you should not edit the CFLAGS variable, since
this name is "owned" by the module builder. There are some names
that you can change, however, that should do the trick.
Try putting this into your file:
C++DEBUGFLAGS = -O
CDEBUGFLAGS = -O
FDEBUGFLAGS = -O
Here's a trick that is probably not well-documented, but available (you
could read the generated Imakefile file to figure this out):
You can name this file Imakefile.default and it will be included EVEN if
you don't name it in User Makefile. The Imakefile.default file is
always included into the generated Makefile.
