MAX will actually run on Win95 too for the thrifty. Version 1.1 is
supposed to make it even more stable under 95. Most people I have heard
running it under 95 are using it with 16-32megs of RAM. Yes MAX wants a
Pentium CPU though. I ran it on NT with a P75 myself for a while and it
ran fine. I would say 48megs is the best beginning for MAX, not 64. Even
though NT is RAM hungry it is very efficient with what is left over.

It actually depends, 12megs would be the very bare minimum of NTs
footprint, 20megs is more about what it hogs up for general use. It is a
pig, but it is a VERY nice pig :)
