If your on the PC now and have the hardware to support it I would go to Windows NT as your OS. Animation programs love NT :) > its each to their own... I cut my teeth on LW 1.0. LW needs plug-ins for particles and collision detection, among other things. 3DS being open to developers is only one reason for its power. The speed of its rendering, and the simple design of the program are a couple others. Another big plus for it is that it is being sold by one of the largest software companies in the world so you can expect a good user following and good R&D. Yeah you can do everything in LW that 3DS can and visa versa, Once again it all comes down to personal taste. > LW is THE med. end choice for broadcast work. 3DS just dont do broadcast very well. > for game designing its great, you dont need as high a res as b-cast. I hate to say it but 3DS was designed for broadcast animation, and is capable of film res too. 3DS can claim a lot of broadcast work and a few films to its name just from this year. > of course, if you want to do it right, throw out 3DS AND LW. > straight to the waste basket. > and get SoftImage NT. the system requirments are about the same as 3DS Max, ant it > is THE ultimat in high end animation. MAX has no where near the requirements as SI does. It is about the same as LW on NT. Jeff -- Student Programmer 3 Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design Emerging Technology Studio
