I attended the demonstration of a groupware package which features group scheduling, project management, and E-mail. Although the program looks very nice and has a potential for improving the productivity and effectiveness of teamwork, I am a little skeptical. This type of technology requires acceptance from every team member. For example, the group scheduling program will not be very useful if only one member of the team is not willing to enter all his appointment notes into the computer. Other social factors such as the type of the team and team members are also proven to be important issues for successful implementation of the technology. I would like to know if anybody on this newsgroup has direct experience or ideas that he or she want to share. Thanks Jed.

I think that groupware will probably follow the pattern of email and other
technologies, in terms of deployment, which is simple, straightforward,
and directly related to human nature :
- If the boss uses the stuff, everyone will
- if the boss does not use the stuff, then acceptance of the
change in culture and operation, posed by the introduction of
groupware, will be much more sporadic, unsupported, leading
to a generally unsuccesful implementation.
In other words, groupware must have a champion.....from a senior level.
There are some fascinating insights into this train of thought in the
book "Leadership and The Computer" by Mary Boone.
