Communication skills and theory are often taught by departments other than MIS. At ISU, we even allow them to be electives. More importantly, the way in which some classes are taught reinforces those concepts. Some of our classes have stronmg requirements for team presentations and team writing and development. As our labs catch up with the 1990's, more team-oriented work will be done using groupware CASE and database tools. We see communication as something that is required all the time rather than a separate course. I do grade my students' reports on "beauty" and presentation as well as on content.
