A co-worker is trying to make a Rexx interface function package to a set of encryption functions under MVS. He is using Rexx external functions. The function package is being written in ASM390 (HLASM to be precise). We have some difficulty debugging our efforts. I was very used to use the 'TEST' command under TSO. In OS/2 we can debug a Rexx external function by debugging the command processor and putting a breakpoint on the loading of the DLL that contains the Rexx external function. In TSO I do not have a clue. Can I 'TEST' IKJEFT01 and put a deferred breakpoint on the loading of the function? I think not. Can anybody shed some light on this problem? I presume the people who wrote the Rexx functions themselves must have had some kind of debugger? Thanks in advance... Rene' V. Jansen

One thing you can do is run the REXX exec under ISPF, and invoke ISPF under TEST, like this: TEST 'SYS2.LINKLIB(ISPF)' CP /* or whatever library it is in */ ISPF /* answer to "ENTER COMMAND FOR CP" prompt */ AT EXTFUNC.EXTFUNEP.+0 DEFER /* set breakpoint for external function */ GO Then, go into option 6 and invoke your REXX exec. Another possibility is to run the REXX interpreter invoking utility, IRXEXEC, under TEST. I haven't tried that. -- Stephen E. The way I do this kind of testing is as follows:
TEST 'isp.ispload(ISPF)' CP
ISPF
LOAD user.load(function)
AT whatever
GO
Then go into option 6 and issue %Rexx_Exec
