It's all part of The Plan.  Once upon a time there were many 
enthusiasts who wrote useful programs in BASIC; but the Powers That Be 
saw that this was a Bad Thing and introduced all the complexities of 
the modern Visual languages, allegedly to the benefit of the users of 
the programs, but, in reality, to get rid of those nasty amateurs 
competing with the company's bottom line.
