I'm developing an app (VB5) with a rather large number of label controls, so the following _might_ have some interest:

Here goes: Does it matter for the size of the final EXE if label.captions (and other captions for that matter) are left blank in design mode or if they are written fully out.

I'm loading all strings from .RES anyway, so I _could_ blank out all lables in design mode before compiling. But I don't want to.....

I have no idea, but Im pretty sure that blanking label captions will reduce
.exe size :), and speed load time (marginally). IMO, VB runs code to
populate your label with design time info, at form load time, as opposed to
having some static object serialized in the form file. IMO, the caption is
not a fixed width field, so blanking it reduces size.

Pascal Jasmin,

If your really concerned about reducing the overall size of a compiled
VB app you can
create new labels on the fly as needed... This definately reduces the size
of the EXE but
requires a little bit of planning... Sometimes do that like this...

Paste a label on a new form.... Set the index in the property window to 0

The following code creates a new Label :-)

Load Label(1)

Label(1).Visible = True
Label(1).Top = 0
Label(1).Left = 0

Overall Control Arrays decrease overall size of the compiled EXE.
