I have just installed Visual Source Safe 4 for better source save maintenance but encountered a serious problem. I have a VB project composed of more than 40 files but it works fine with VB 4 Enterprise. After the installation of SourceSafe4, I have to login and get/check out the necessary files each time I load the project in VB. But an error message 'Too many files opened' stopped the loading process. What I can do now is get the files using SS before I start VB and maintain files (checkin, add new files..) manually after quitting VB. I have tried working a project with less than 10 files and SS4 works perfectly with VB4. So it seems this is not a problem of either VB or SS. I have also tried increasing files handle in config.sys to the max. no. 255 but it just doesn't help. Now here is the config. of my system : Win95, VB4 Enterprise (16bits), SourceSafe 4 (16/32 bits), more than 50 files in a VB project distributed in 3 different directories, SourceSafe4 is installed on a remote NT server. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (pls cc a copy to me) -- eRic eeeee@asiaonline.net http://www.asiaonline.net/users/~eeee

ms has a patch available on their website that may help. The description? The 0831 version of SSVB16.DLL and SSSCC16.DLL fix the "Too Many File Handles" error that you get while trying to use Visual SourceSafe with Visual Basic Enterprise Edi (514595 bytes, published 01/12/96 ) [posted to so many newsgroups, and still missed the mark. Try microsoft.public.visualsourcesafe next time :-) ] On Tue, 12 Aug 1997 17:22:26 +0100, "Mark Leabon" <mleabon@telecom.com> wrote: > Just to let you know you are not alone - i get exactly the same problem. >So i would like to know the answer to this problem too. >Mark > >eRicW wrote in article <01bca3a2$dab5aca0$855f55ca@ericw-pc>... > >>I have just installed Visual Source Safe 4 for better source save >>maintenance but encountered a serious problem. >>I have a VB project composed of more than 40 files but it works fine with >>VB 4 Enterprise.
