Judging from the amount of mail I've had recently, there are quite
a lot of people asking similar questions at the moment. I don't
have access to a PC right now, so I'm not in a position to produce
such a version myself, but I will give some pointers as to what can
be done.

With any kind of PC, it is (in theory) possible to compile a version
of Gofer with floats, but you will either end up with:
   1) half as many heap cells (only 16,383 of them to be precise),
or 2) slower execution (even if you never use floats!) and not enough
memory left to run an editor from within Gofer.
Neither of these is very appealing. I have some patches to implement
the first option, but I'm not keen to distribute them without an
opportunity to test them first.

If you have a 386 or better and a compiler that can produce 32 bit
executables (I'm not sure that the most popular compilers can) then
you can produce a version of Gofer which has floats and makes proper
use of extra memory in your machine. I actually managed to do this
a couple of months ago using GNU C. However, the version of GNU C
that I used didn't support interrupts so pressing ^C would quit the
interpreter, not just the current evaluation.

Hope that helps,
Mark
